Sellers say demand for foldable smartphones soars in Jan–Apr

MOSCOW, May 16 (PRIME) -- Sales of foldable smartphones in Russia rocketed in January–April thanks to a wide assortment and the price policy, the industry’s representatives told PRIME on Tuesday.

“Upon results of January–April 2023, sales of foldable smartphones in units in M.Video-Eldorado more than doubled on the year. The average check amounted to about 90,000 rubles,” a company spokesperson said.

The trend was supported by an expanded assortment, including new brands, the spokesperson added.

M.Video-Eldorado opened pre-orders for Huawei Mate X3, and its sales will start on May 26.

Marketplace Ozon said that demand for foldable devices almost quintupled on the year in January–April.

“The trend can be explained by coming of new models and manufacturers to the market that raises the offer and reduces the price of the devices. Besides, many Russians associate foldable devices with their first phones and higher comfort in exploitation,” an Ozon representative told PRIME.
